REVIVING THE SPIRIT
Introduction:
Revive means to reactivate someone or something that has been deactivated. It means to restore back to activeness or to bring back to its active state. Revive can be interpreted as making someone or something active. Have you been so thirsty that you feel like fainting? In that state, immediately you drink water you perceive that new strength just come upon you, dear that is the meaning of Revive.
So reviving the Spirit means restoring back the Spirit to its active state. In other word, reactivating the Spirit that has been deactivated.
There are some of us that the godly things that we were doing before easily and happily, is very very hard for us to do now. Some people, before, any time they pick up the bible to read they will always be excited but now they see the bible like their enemy.
Hell is real & heaven is real, the devil don’t want to stay in hell alone (1 Peter 5:8) and Jesus don’t want to be in Heaven alone (John 14:3).
The reason why you can’t do the godly things that you freely do before is because the spirit is not available. The Spirit is not available because you have quenched it {the Holy Spirit} (1 Thess. 5:19)
Ephesians 4:30 do not grievethe Holy Spirit …sealed for…redemption. This tells us that the Holy Spirit has been sealed (join tightly) to us so as to help us do the will of God till the end.
IMPORTANCE OF REVIVAL
Revival comes with rejoicing (Psalms 85:6)
You must be excited because your relationship with God has been renew. Can you imagine how the prodigal son felt when his father forgive him?
Revival come with restoration (Micah 7:8, Joel 2:25-26)
He restore you back because He don’t want to lost any of His child, remember the Prodigal son was not received as a servant despite his mistakes and backsliding but automatically restored back as a son. Psalms 50:15 God deliver and restore you to your position.
THE SET OF PEOPLE THAT GOD REVIVE
Isaiah 57:15 “… to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
1. The spirit of the humble
Humble means to bring yourself down, ignore your personality, ignore your beauty, ignore your wealth. The major step to humbleness is overcoming proud, remember God is always against the proud (Jeremiah 50:31-32a) just acknowledge the fact that the things of the flesh is vanity.
2. Revive the heart of the contrite (regretful)
God does not revive people based on their physical appearance (either tall, handsome, fat etc.), because God goes beyond our appearance (1 Samuel 16:7) and goes deeper into our real personality.
Immediately Nebuchadnezzar repent, God restore him back as king (Dan. 4:34-36).
WHY DO GOD REVIVE HIS PEOPLE?
God revive His people because it is not His will for anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9; Mat 18:14) that is to say because of the love He has for mankind (John 3:16).
Heaven rejoice over one sinner that repent (Luke 15:7), remember the celebration and jubilation for the prodigal son when he returned.
Most of us want to draw very close to God but we can’t spend precious time to meditate on God’s word.
When you can’t meditate (study your bible), you become an incomplete child of God, because the things you know about God is the one you hear from people but when you spend time to read your bible, you will discover how some people encountered temptation and you will also see how they overcame it and at the same time you are hearing from God. As you meditate daily and practice what you are reading, you start seeing the word of God becoming alive.
Conclusion: Do you see yourself as a backslider from the things of God? Then this is an opportunity for you to revive and welcome back the Holy Spirit, because He is the only One that will give you strength to study, understand, obey and do the will of God (John 6:63).
