TWO MASTERS ONE SERVANT
Matthew 6:24
To completely draw close to God then you must be ready to ignore the other master and concentrate on God
No master is ready to share his servant with another master and that is the reason if you are working under someone, it is sometimes hard for that person to give you complete freedom to go anywhere you wish.
Consequences of having two masters
- 1. Confusion
Confusion leads to double minded James 1:6-8
Double mind leads to confusion and confusion leads to frustration and frustration leads to failure.
(That is why when someone has a lot of schedules, most times he will end up not even completing one)
Whenever you are here you wish to be there, and whenever you are there you wish to be here. This produce frustration.
In life there are stones you can use to kill two birds and there are stones that can kill only one birds though matter the effort exerted. Don't try to serve two masters cause it is not possible.
- 2. Disobedient
Though matter how smart you are, you can’t successfully please the both of them.
Your business/office demands that you open as early as possible, but your spiritual life needs at least 5mins communication between you and your creator before leaving your house.
If you are by chance opportune to have that 5mins fellowship, where will your concentration based on?
Is it on the fellowship or you are here communicating with God but in your mind you are seeing costumers waiting for you?
Have you not encounter a situation where you meet your heavenly Father today and tell Him that tomorrow you want to embark on a fast and when tomorrow reach (even before the hour of 6am you discover that your small and large intestine are wrestling.
This is where most people reschedule the fast. Some will even tell you that is God that makes the hungry to surface at such a time so as to reveal to them not fast
HOW TO FOCUS ON ONE MASTER
Why did the devil succeed in using Judas to betray His master
Because Judas love the other master (i.e his flesh, money), more than Jesus.
Matt 6:24-26
(Luke 9:23-26 Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. 25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? 26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels)
He was saying it to all the congregation and not just to his disciples. Jesus said if any one, He did not say if a pastor, if a bishop, if an evangelist but if ANYONE irrespective of your tribe and former religion.
We are to carry it daily and not yearly or annually.
Jesus was referring to our daily activities, the things we do
the more we try to please this one the more we hurt the other
Luke 14:27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Your inability to follow Him daily automatically denies you the right of discipleship and thereby put your fellowship at stake.
Conclusion: Joshua 24:15 choose this day which master you will serve.
