MY LITTLE FAITH WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
Text: Hebrews 11:1-2,6
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. KJV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. RSV
Memory Verse: Mark 11:22 And Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God.
Prayer isn’t just about asking God for things you need or desire. It’s about establishing a relationship with Him built on faith and trust in Him. God knows the desires of your heart long before you even think to ask, but he still loves to hear from you—whether you're asking for guidance or giving thanks—because it draws you closer to him. The Bible is full of people who were led to pray for a multitude of things we still pray about today: fear, anger, worry etc.
WHAT IS FAITH?
Ø Faith is you having a conclusion that your problem has been solved.
Ø Faith is defined as complete trust or confidence in someone or something
Ø Faith is you knowing that your request has been granted though you have not seen it taking place.
Matt 21:18-22
Before Jesus cursed the fig tree, He believed, He knows that the tree must die.
So, Faith is you having a conclusion about a spoken word or a situation. It is you believing that this thing must happen.
Hebrews 11:6
Evidence of things not seen. (Prove)
Rom 14:23
23 But he who has doubts is condemned, if he eats, because he does not act from faith; for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
v Fasting and Praying without faith:
James 1:5-7:- 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways, will receive anything from the Lord. RSV
v Giving without faith: (to People OR to God)
2 Cor 9:7:-…for God loves a cheerful giver.
The faith you have in believing that God will reward you is what makes you give without grudges.
Matt 6:3-4 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. RSV
v It is the faith you have that makes you give freely in secret believing that God will reward you.
v Doing God’s work without faith
Hebrews 11:6
It is not all about doing God’s work it all about pleasing God (Matt 3:17 and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. RSV),
Matt 7:21-23
21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' 23 And then will I declare to them, 'I knew you not; depart from me, you workers of iniquity.
E.G: your mum sent you (1stperson) to go and fetch her water and you send your younger brother (2ndperson) and your younger brother send another person (3rd person), so at last the water was brought to your mum by the third person. Who has done the work of your mother and pleased her?
ü This connotes that even preaching the gospel and getting unbelievers converted does not means you have pleased God.
v No one can make Heaven without faith
Eph 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God - 9 not because of works, lest any man should boast. RSV
You are saved through faith, if you don’t have faith, how do you know that you are a child of God (a God that you have never seen before)?
ü So, it is your faith that tells you that God exist.
ü It is your faith that tells you that you are a child of God.
ü It is your faith that tells you that keeps you connected to God.
“Faith is like WiFi. It’s invisible, but it has the power to connect you to what you need”
With faith you know that of a truth “No Situation Is Hopeless”
The unbelief of the Israelites makes God to kill them in the wilderness (Numbers 14:1-12, 20-23)
Hebrews 3:17-19:- 17 And with whom was he provoked forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
Jesus Disciples operating with Little faith:
Mat. 6:23:- Jesus with his disciples
Mat. 14:31:- Peter sinking on the sea
Mat. 17:20:- the disciples unable to cast out demons
Assignment: What makes the disciples that has little faith in the presence of Jesus Christ able to make exploits in that absence of Jesus?
Conclusion: Without faith it is impossible to access the power of God.
